What Do Chickens Eat?

What Do Chickens Eat?

Chickens are very grateful animals. With some grain and the occasional additional snack such as mealworms or nutriworms, they are already very satisfied. But your chickens will only be really happy if you feed them a varied diet. After all, you don't want to eat the same thing every day, do you?

Feed leftover food to chickens

You can simply feed your chickens a lot of leftover food. So don't throw them in the organic waste bin, but give them to the ladies. You get delicious eggs in return. In addition, chickens love most weeds. So you can leave that with them!

Fruit

Fruit is a real delicacy for your chickens. So occasionally give them some berries, strawberries or apple. They also love soft fruit such as raspberries, but you can also give something exotic such as kiwi, grapes or mango.

Cereal products

Is a product of a grain? Then you can usually also feed it to the chickens. They love boiled noodles, barley, wheat, corn and rice. It keeps your chickens healthy and produces tastier eggs. Note: it is better not to give bread to the chickens. They contain too much salt, which can cause health problems!

Potatoes and vegetables

Did you cook a little too much, but it's not enough to save for leftover day? Boiled potatoes and boiled vegetables can be fed very well to the chickens. The chickens also love lettuce (not too much) and cucumber, as well as other leafy vegetables such as spinach and endive.

What should you not feed chickens?

There are also food scraps that you shouldn't feed your chickens. They will often eat these leftovers quickly, but it is not healthy. Things like yogurt, meat (including cat and dog food) are extremely bad for chickens. Moldy or spoiled food is also not healthy for chickens. Of course a chicken is not a waste bin!

Of course you don't feed chickens weird things. Chocolate and sweets are out of the question, but cheese, avocado, kiwis, bananas and citrus fruits are also unhealthy for your chickens. Finally, garlic (such as leek, onion and garlic) are also not good for the health of your chickens.

Healthy snack

Do you want to offer the chickens a healthy snack? The Nutri Worm Insect Snack is packed with proteins, vitamins and essential nutrients. And just as important: chickens love it.
